Veneers are thin shells created from porcelain or ceramic that can be colored and shaped to blend perfectly with a patient’s smile. People may opt for veneers for a number of reasons. Veneers can make teeth appear even, cover stains, and even fill gaps. In addition, veneers can repair cracks, chips, and breaks.
The veneer process starts with taking an impression of a patient’s teeth. This impression ensures that the veneers have the right shape and size. Veneers are also matched for color.
Next, part of the tooth enamel is removed so that the veneer can lay flat and a temporary veneer is installed. Before permanently installing the veneer, the temporary veneer is removed and a water-based solution is used to ensure that the fit and color are right. If everything looks right, the veneer is permanently bonded to the tooth.
After the procedure, teeth may feel sore for a few days, but pain medication can be used to manage the discomfort. During this period, patients are asked to eat soft foods. Within a few days, however, they can return to their normal routines.
