From October 28 to 29, the American Dental Association will partner with the Task Force on Design and Analysis in Oral Health Research to hold a groundbreaking conference on the intersection of dentistry and genomics. According to conference program coordinator Dr. Thomas Hart, who chairs the ADA’s Council on Scientific Affairs, this will mark the first meeting of genomic experts focusing on the implications of genetic testing on dentistry. The two-day meeting will cover the evolution of genomic research and the roles that genes play in dental disease. Attendees will also explore issues pertinent to the development of safe, effective genetic tests for use in dental care, and will compare these potential challenges with complications faced by clinicians in other medical sectors. These topics will inform the conference’s primary goal of developing a framework to guide the genomic study of oral disease.
