Implant Crowns are designed to replace a missing tooth over a previously placed implant. Once an Implant is place and 2 to 3 months of healing has occurred an Implant Crown is fabricated over an implant abutment which is connected to the implant and then the implant crown is connected to the implant abutment. The Implant Crown is either screwed down to the implant abutment or is cemented onto the implant abutment.
The Implant abutment can be either a standard abutment or a custom abutment depending on the position of the implant and the need of the dental lab to make the crown fit and be placed in the best position for correct function and esthetics. The custom abutment will be used to correct angulation issues and esthetic concerns.
Implant crowns done properly and in the and in the right position can look very natural and can be long lasting. Patient's comment that implant crowns feel like their natural tooth when chewing and functioning.
